Vancouver Canucks May Be Open to Moving Starting Goaltender, Thatcher Demko

Demko Missed Significant Time Last Season Due to Injury, But Still Impressed

Vancouver Canucks starting goalie Thatcher Demko may be on the move. According to Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff, the Canucks are open to trading the 26-year-old netminder if they can get a good return.

Demko missed a full month of play last season due to a lower-body injury, but he still managed to post a respectable record of 33-22-7 with a 2.72 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

Why Would the Canucks Trade Demko?

There are a few reasons why the Canucks might be willing to trade Demko. First, they have a number of young goaltending prospects who are ready to take on a bigger role. Second, Demko is entering the final year of his contract, and the Canucks may not be willing to pay him the kind of money he's likely to command on the open market.

What Would the Canucks Get in Return for Demko?

If the Canucks do trade Demko, they're likely to get a good return. He's a young, talented goalie who has shown he can win in the NHL. The Canucks could get a high draft pick or a young player with upside in return for Demko.

It's still too early to say whether or not the Canucks will actually trade Demko. However, the fact that they're open to it is a sign that they're not completely sold on him as their long-term goalie.
